1977: It's time to play Haxey Hood! For those living in the Isle of Axholme in North Lincolnshire, the 6th of January is the one day of the year that the ancient traditional game of Haxey Hood is played. A tubular leather ‘hood’ is fought over by a large scrum of people from the rival villages of Haxey and Westwoodside, in a game which can last several hours. When the hood is pushed by the scrum into one of the four local pubs, the winner is declared with the hood remaining there until next year
